The “Lagoa da Conceição” district is located in the geographic centre of Santa Catarina island, among the neighbourhoods of Rio Tavares, Itacorubi , Barra da Lagoa and Rio Vermelho. It is 14 km (8.7 miles) away from downtown and that would take around 25 minutes to drive from there to the International Airport.
It occupies an area of 19.71 km² (7.62 square miles) and has a population of over 30,000 people, distributed in locations such as Centrinho da Lagoa, Canto dos Araças, Costa da Lagoa , Porto da Lagoa, Canto da Lagoa and Praia da Joaquina .
The “Lagoa da Conceição” neighbourhood brings together beaches, dunes, mountains and the largest lagoon on the island. Due to its unique beauty, it has become the best-known natural tourist spot in the city.
Whether it is in the air, land or water, when it comes to the practice of sports, especially in contact with nature, Lagoa da Conceição is the place to be. If there is wind blowing from the north quadrant, from east or south, it is common to find practitioners of windsurfing, sailing, kite surfing and free flight at work.
On the neighbouring beaches, no matter the temperature, there are always surfers after waves. On the dunes, between Lagoa da Conceição and Praia da Joaquina , there are always people dropping on the sandboard, but if you want something a bit more relaxing and at an easier pace, there are several trails for ecological trails. Also, mountain biking is always a good option.
With the growing number of tourists and residents, the cafes, stores and restaurants are always busy. One of the main points is mini-shopping mall Via Lagoa, which has about ten stores and a small food court. In the place called “Centrinho da Lagoa” which could be translated as “small downtown”, you can find good diversity that ranges from markets, pharmacies, hardware stores and bakeries to surf shops and decoration stores.
The large number of bars, lounges, nightclubs and restaurants makes Lagoa’s nightlife one of the most popular in the city. You can choose between quiet places with live music, pubs, performances by alternative artists, nightclubs, dancing and, of course, outdoor living.

Novo Campeche
Distance from downtown: 8.7 miles (14 Km)
Distance from the International Airport: 4,9 miles (8 Km)
The Campeche district is located in the southeast of Santa Catarina island, between Armação do Pântano do Sul and Rio Tavares districts. It is currently one of the regions of the city with the greatest potential for growth, in terms of urban expansion, as it is located on the largest plain on the island.
Despite having one of the few communities where artisanal fishing is still practiced to these days, Campeche has been slowly losing its rustic and beachy atmosphere and is becoming a mixed cultured neighbourhood, with commerce, services, schools, day care centres, health centres, buildings, residential condos and villas.
The main fact that has driven this change is its relative proximity to downtown, but at the same time, being located right at the beach, which brings quality of life, the possibility of practising sports and the magnificent opportunity of having contact with nature without giving up urban facilities.
Tourists will find a good variety of inns and “Praia do Campeche” (Campeche Beach) is one of its main attractions as a large number of people are always in search for the perfect conditions in the practice of surfing and kite surfing. Right in front of the beach is Ilha do Campeche , which has a rich ecosystem and holds a significant portion of the archaeological heritage of Santa Catarina, in addition to having a dozen trails.
Recently, the stretch of Campeche beach known as “Riozinho” began to stand out as the new meeting point for young people in Florianópolis, especially for fans of sports such as kitesurfing. The area has a few bars, a beach volleyball court and a space for shows, having received important names in national and international music over the last few years.
Another region that has gained prominence at the moment is the region known as Novo Campeche, an upscale subdivision area located by the sea, between the central region of the Campeche district and Praia da Joaquina, belonging to the “Lagoa da Conceição” district.
The name “Campeche” comes from the island in front of the beach - Ilha do Campeche, as it has been known that way since at least the 19th century. Historians claim, however, that the term is much older and comes from a reddish-stemmed tree called Pau Campeche. Like Pau Brasil, Pau Campeche would have been much sought after at the beginning of the colonization process for fabric dyeing.
The formation of Campeche began around 1880, when some families from Azores (Portugal) originally moved towards the southern plains on the island. The proximity to the sea made fishing the most important activity for them and the region.
During the 1920s, the French air mail installed an airfield in the neighbourhood that was used to refuel flights between Paris and Buenos Aires. The route commander, none other than the writer Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, took the opportunity to rest and ended up befriending the region's residents. Hence the legend that the name of the neighbourhood came from the French nickname that the visitor gave to the place: countryside and fishing, in other words, champ et pêche.
In recent years, Campeche has become one of the main targets of real estate speculation in the capital. Gradually, large plots gave way to residential condominiums and an expressive migratory flow significantly impacted the region. Currently, the great concern of the inhabitants of Campeche is to reconcile the growth of the neighbourhood with the preservation of natural and historical assets.

Jurere International
Distance from downtown: 16.7 miles (27 Km)
Distance from the International Airport: 22.3 miles (36 Km)
Located in the northern portion of Santa Catarina Island, bordering Daniela , Jurerê Tradicional and Canasvieiras districts, Jurerê Internacional is considered the most sophisticated district in Florianópolis.
The result of several urban projects that were focused on sustainability, resulted in a unique place on the island.
With wide and planned roads, tree-lined streets, million-dollar mansions, specific areas for commerce and services, plenty of parking spaces, exclusive security and sanitation and, above all, organization and nature.
The main road to cross Jurerê Internacional is Avenida dos Búzios (Buzios Avenue), which is basically bordered by houses, commercial and residential buildings. It is also where Jurerê Open Shopping Mall is located, at a space that concentrates a large part of the region's businesses.
At the far end of Buzios Avenue is located one of the offices of “Clube 12 de Agosto” and the main access to Praia do Forte . Right between the neighborhood and Praia do Forte is locatd the Fortaleza de São José da Ponta Grossa .
Parallel to Avenida dos Búzios is Avenida dos Dourados, where the Jurerê Sports Center is located. Open throughout the year, Jurerê Sports Center offers various sports for practitioners of all ages. In addition, the space has a restaurant which menu ranges from breakfast to a happy hour snack.
However, the biggest attraction of this district is Jurerê beach , with its white sands and green waters. In the background, boats and sailboats add a sophisticated touch to the landscape. On the shore, a charming sidewalk is where residents take the opportunity to jog, walk or simply admire the beach.
Another highlight are the famous beach clubs, such as Parador 12, Donna, Taiko, Simple on the Beach and Café de La Musique, beach bars, internationally famous for their fancy parties, which mix beautiful people, celebrities, champagne, sun, sea and electronic music.
Jurerê Internacional also offers leisure areas, a cycling track and it is part of the Carijós Ecological Station area. Under the care of the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio), the main goal of the Station is the conservation of the mangrove ecosystem within the island of Santa Catarina. Visits are permitted, as long as they are monitored and with objectives aimed at environmental education.
The name Jurerê Internacional has everything to do with the old and new residents of the place. “Jurerê” comes from the term “Y-Jurerê Mirim”, which in Tupi-Guarani, the native language of the tribes that lived in Brazil prior to the European colonization, means something like “small mouth of water”. This “little mouth” would be the channel between the Island and the Continent, now connected by bridges. The more recent “Internacional”, seems to be related to the project of an elegant and cosmopolitan neighbourhood, connected to the great resorts around the world.
In 1978, the Habitasul Group began negotiations for the purchase of land in the Jurerê subdivision. Five years later, the company delivered the first part of the Jurerê Internacional subdivision, designed and executed to resemble Miami's spas. Since then, this part of Jurerê began to be clearly distinguished from the rest of the region, known nowadays as Jurerê Traditional.
